Awareness Initiatives

Throughout June, our Myasthenia Gravis Association of Queensland (MGAQ) members and supporters come together to raise awareness of myasthenia gravis (MG) across Queensland.

From community walks and landmark light-ups to digital campaigns, sporting partnerships and public awareness initiatives, each activity helps shine a light on this rare condition and the people and families affected by it.

Explore some of the awareness initiatives MGAQ has been proud to support and discover how you can help us continue raising awareness of MG.

Bringing the MG community together in Brisbane

MGAQ members, families, friends and supporters came together at New Farm Park in Brisbane for our Walk for Myasthenia Gravis Awareness.

The event provided an opportunity to connect as a community, raise awareness of MG and help more Queenslanders understand this rare neuromuscular condition.

A great day of connection, conversation and MG awareness.

In June, landmarks across Queensland were illuminated in teal to help shine a light on myasthenia gravis.

These light-ups created highly visible moments of awareness in communities across the state, helping spark conversations and encourage more people to learn about MG.

We are incredibly grateful to the councils, organisations and venues that supported this important awareness initiative.

Awareness can happen anywhere, and throughout June, MGAQ was proud to see MG awareness reaching communities in many different ways.

From digital billboards and sporting partnerships to community events and public campaigns, these initiatives helped take the MG awareness message to thousands of Queenslanders.

MG awareness across Queensland

Digital awareness campaigns helped bring myasthenia gravis into public spaces, encouraging Queenslanders to learn more about MG and recognise the impact this rare condition can have on everyday life.

POA is Australia’s largest regional outdoor advertising company, with a network of more than 2,000 billboard locations reaching communities across Queensland. Their generous support during International Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month allowed MGAQ’s awareness messaging to be displayed across regional Queensland, helping shine a light on Myasthenia Gravis in communities that may not otherwise be aware of the condition.

MGAQ was incredibly grateful to the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys for the opportunity to raise awareness of myasthenia gravis with more than 21,000 fans in Townsville during International Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month.

The North Queensland Cowboys have a proud legacy of supporting and connecting communities across North Queensland. Through the Field of Dreams program and Community Corner activation at the Cowboys v Dolphins game on 6 June, MGAQ members and their families were able to enjoy the game while International Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month messaging reached a broader audience. The opportunity provided another platform to shine a light on Myasthenia Gravis, build awareness and introduce new people and communities to MGAQ.

Every awareness initiative helps shine a light on MG and, together, we are continuing to make a real impact.

These initiatives are designed to encourage conversation, increase public awareness and help more Queenslanders recognise and better understand myasthenia gravis.

MGAQ's commitment to raising awareness extends beyond our current initiatives. Past projects have also helped share the experiences and voices of people living with MG in powerful and creative ways.

One such initiative was Oh MG by Chloe Wigg, an art exhibition celebrating the strength, creativity and resilience of the myasthenia gravis community.
